After School Programs (ASP)
JIES is also proud of the provision of after school activities for its students. The objective of the ASP is to give the students from Age 3 and up the opportunity to work on what they cannot do in the regular class. They can socialize and relax, through these extracurricular activities, guided by the members of our faculty as well as those from the larger community.
We are currently running 12 ASPs each week. Some examples of the current and past ASPs are:
| After School Programs (Spring Term) | |
|---|---|
| Bugs Exploration (Pre/Kinder/G) |
|
| Indoor Games (Kinder/G) |
Students will enjoy various games in the gym and develop their motor skills. |
| Dance (G) |
Ms. Kamise is a dance teacher as well as an instructor at Konami Sports Club. She has been teaching dance for 9 years including 5 years experience to teach dance to children. She will focus on mainly Hip Hop, while she puts Jazz Dance essence with a good balance. In this ASP, children will be learning rhythmical dance including warm-up stretch and basic steps. This class aims to not only learn dance but also promote children’s gross-motor skill. They will perform at the year-end performance. |
| Chess Club (G) |
|
| Basketball (G) |
|
| Movie Time (Pre/Kinder/G) |
Children will enjoy watching Anime Movies with Mr. Sonmez and talk about their favorite movie characters. |
| Origami Book Club (G) |
Origami is a traditional paper folding art in Japan. We will read a fun book at the beginning of the class, and then fold an origami paper into a character or object that is related to the story. By the end of the term, each student will have a pop-up book of their wonderful origami creations! |
| Japanese Calligraphy (G) |
|
| Math with Computers (G) |
Children will enjoy an online multiplayer and the combination of math and computer let students improve their math skills without realizing. This program aims more students find it fun!! |
| Athletics (Pre/Kinder/G) |
|
| Symphony Time (Pre/Kinder/G) |
Each week, students will enjoy a video of a symphonic performance and participate in a brief discussion. Famous symphonies by composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven will be included, as well as pieces by other, less-well-known composers. |
| Nihon Buyo (Kinder/G) |
The Nihon Buyo is actually inspired by the ordinary people’s daily behaviors such as greeting, walking, sitting and standing and thus it should be actually very approachable and familiar to everyone. We hope this Nihon Buyo ASP could be the chance for JIES children to feel closer to the Japanese mind and music and to learn beauty of Japanese particular movements. (Children wear Japanese Summer Kimono during the lesson, provided by the teacher.) They will perform at the year-end performance. |
| Jump Rope (G) |
We will try to learn the tips about a successful and fast jump rope challenge |
| Lego Robot (G) |
In this challenging ASP, using the LEGO MINDSTORMS set children will create robots like animals, humanoids, machines, and vehicles and they will operate them using the computer. This program is not for beginner level students and existing participants are recommended to continue. However, there will be a further selection by the program instructor depending on the performance last term. |
