School Events

Exchange Activities

JIES is unique for the exchange activities that it holds with the neighboring Japanese elementary school. These activities aim at promoting multiculturalism and interaction between the international student body of JIES and the Japanese of Jingumae Elementary School. Activities include whole school activities like the Sports Festival (Undokai), School Trips and School Festival (Matsuri) as well as smaller group activities that entail student interaction.

Shibuya Peace Day

As a tribute to the local government and in accordance with the philosophy of the exchange project, JIES celebrates Shibuya’s Peace Day with various activities.

Health Day

We focus on health and hygiene topics at school on this day with various activities.

Family Barbecue

This is an opportunity for all families at the school to join in a special gathering and enjoy the company of family and friends.

Halloween Party

Parents help with the decorations and preparations for our annual Halloween Party.

Parents’ Day

Parents visit classes on these days. They can observe the classroom and watch lessons. They are held twice a year in fall and winter terms.

World Hello Day

Students learn to say "Hello" in various languages. We celebrate the multicultural nature of our school.

Parent-Teacher Conference

All parents are invited. Parents meet teachers individually and discuss their children’s progress as indicated in their report cards and portfolios.

Winter Performance

Our winter performance showcases the creativity of our students.

Japanese Culture Day

Students enjoy different elements of Japanese culture through varios activities.

Literacy Week   

Activities that promote reading and writing are held. Parents may come to classes to read stories in English or in their own languages. They include book fairs, parades, and parent involvement.

Numeracy Week   

Activities that promote numeracy skills and love of math are held.

Drizon Day

Drizon is the school mascot Dragon. Drizon day is a schoolwide event to promote the spirit of the school. Students play games and do activities. Students and staff are allowed to wear jeans and encouraged to include red and grey that are school colors.

Family Fun Day 

Parents come to school and play various games with students.

Earth Day

We use this day to learn more about the planet which is our home and activities that promote environment friendliness and responsibility are held.

International Children’s Festival

This festival will help us celebrate of joys of the children from all over the world. Fun with games and activities from the international background of JIES students are enjoyed.

Sports Festival (Undokai)

The undokai is another big exchange activity for running, jumping, catching and throwing – all to the best of our ability. Preparations start around a month in advance.

Year End Performance

Our year end performance showcases the creativity of our students. Students perform songs, plays and a lot more.

PTA Bazaar

PTA sells donated items for fundraising to support enhancing the educational environment of our students.
