JIES News 2013-2014
To celebrate Shibuya Peace Day some students at JIES decided to make peace themed art. The fourth, fifth, and sixth graders wrote messages of peace and folded them into cranes that will be sent to a school in Hawaii, and a school in Venezuela. First grade made multicolored paper that they folded into cranes and were hung at different levels from a hanger. Third grade made peace themed vase art, and fourth grade made peace snowflakes. Today the fifth graders were invited to meet the mayor and present the artwork to him. They also wrote short speeches about what peace means to them and presented their speeches to the mayor. We were very excited to get to participate in such a wonderful experience, and we were thrilled to see that our peace projects from last year are still being displayed outside of the mayor's office.
