Interactive Whiteboards
At JIES we actively keep up to date with current teaching trends and methods. Linked with this we have installed Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) as a valuable educational tool in all of our classrooms. We believe that as citizens of tomorrow our students should have as much opportunity to experiment and become acclimatized with differing forms of technology and using these whiteboards allow us many opportunities to incorporate elements of ICT into our everyday curriculum.
An IWB works by projecting and enlarging the image from a classroom computer onto a touch-receptive board which can then be interacted with using a wireless electronic pen. The projected image can be useful to display and edit enlarged documents, images and video content for a whole class, while teachers can easily switch and save content as you would with regular PC functions, meaning they are not restricted by the size of board’s writing surface. Learning to use the pen can also allow students to become more adroit with different electronic pointing devices as well allowing them practice at manipulating objects in a computer environment.
As the use of IWBs are becoming more commonplace in schools around the world there is also a wealth of resources available to compliment teaching of our curriculum here at JIES. Graphical and interactive representations of complex learning concepts can often aid children who benefit from varying teaching and learning styles. While the general use of the IWBs often catch the imaginations of our students. Using an IWB and the related interactive content and educational games can be used in lessons to make learning more dynamic and interesting. It also allows our teachers to be more creative with their planning using attention grabbing and fun lesson content to stimulate and enthuse our students.
